THE GOOD DIE YOUNG

I've spent a good portion of my day staring at these photos. They're haunting and perfect. I decided I wanted to put together a collection of my all time favorite photos of those I admire that left us too soon. Whether it be love, drugs, fame or pain - the self destructive nature of the young mind is something most (if not all) can relate with. Some of these photos are rare, some iconic, but all capture the intrinsic beauty of the souls we loved and lost.

I'll tell you this... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.

ROCK GOD

ROCK GOD

You'll find the most photos of Jim in this collection. Reason being is that I find him absolutely fascinating. If there ever was a being that embodied all that is rock, I believe that would be Jim Morrison. Complex, raw, dark and ethereal. A person with the kind of mind I would pay to spend an hour in.

LAST WORDS -Jim Morrison, Paris, 1971

(Poem found in Paris hotel room where The Doors were staying when he died.)

I have a vision of America
28,000 feet & going fast

I have drunk the drug
of forget fullness

Leave the informed sense
in our wake

You be Christ
on this package tour

Money beats soul

Last words, last words out

THE LIZARD KING

THE LIZARD KING

Why the name? Jim wrote a poem called "The Celebration of the Lizard" which first appeared on the sleeve of The Door's album, Waiting For The Sun. The poem read:

"I am the Lizard King; I can do anything"

The name caught on and stuck. Morrison had an obsession with reptiles and rumor has it that while attending a party in LA in 1967 he got in an argument with Janis Joplin. He then threatened her telling her he'd "unleash an army of tiny beasts" on her. She then threw a bottle at his face, and he then spent an hour in the garden attempting to summon his lizard army with a Native American dance. But clearly, that didn't work.

JAMES DEAN

JAMES DEAN

Who'll be, the next James Dean?

JAMES, DREAM

JAMES, DREAM

"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today."

"If a man can bridge the gap between life and death, if he can live on after he's dead, then maybe he was a great man."

LITTLE BASTARD

Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid

Dean was fascinated by archetypal non-conformists such as Billy the Kid. In fact, he read The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid multiple times and discussed his desire to play the role in his life.

The Tragic Rebel

The Tragic Rebel

If Paul Newman is the quintessential sexy man, then James Dean is the quintessential sexy boy. No one will ever pull it off the tragic-rebel thing as well as he did, but it's an ideal worth aspiring to: forever encircled by a puff of smoke and pulling away to angst-ridden pastures on a Triumph. -Nerve

AMY WINEHOUSE

AMY WINEHOUSE

"I don't think your ability to fight has anything to do with how big you are. It's to do with how much anger is in you."

BACK TO BLACK

BACK TO BLACK

I play "Back to Black" and I feel her. I feel her pain and my own memories of love and loss find their way to the surface. I appreciate almost all of Amy's music, "Valerie" being one of my all time favorites, but to me there's nothing like "Back to Black". I think it's because this song emanates the epitome of who Amy was. Beautiful, plagued and lovesick.

GHOST

GHOST

In 2012, a friend of Pete Doherty told the Sun that he’d moved to Paris because his London flat was “haunted by Amy Winehouse’s ghost.” The friend added: “You might think from that he’s on drugs, but he’s clean.”

THE SCREAMING EAGLE

THE SCREAMING EAGLE

Jimi dropped out of High School and enlisted in the Army in May 1959, becoming a member of ‘The Screaming Eagles’ 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a trainee paratrooper. Fortunately for music fans everywhere, less than a year later he received a medical discharge after breaking an ankle on his twenty-sixth parachute jump.

A SIGN OF THE DEVIL

A SIGN OF THE DEVIL

Hendrix was best known for his outlandish performances. Audiences were amazed when they'd watch him play guitar with his teeth or shred behind his back. Jimi also played his Fender Stratocaster guitar upside down which may have seemed like another stage trick but was actually his method of accommodating his left-handedness. Jimi however was often chastised by his father who considered his unorthodox left-handed technique to be "a sign of the Devil".
